    One of our oil & gas clients engaged us to handle the packing and shipment of skids for Slurry tank, 1500sq feet Cartridge vessel, 1100sq feet Recessed Chamber Filter press, Centrifugal Pump, Hose Basket, Suction Hoses, 832 units of 10 Micron 40” pleated polypropylene cartridge bound for Port Harcourt, Nigeria was received and handled with quality and care at our new heavy lift warehouse and packing facility at Houston, Texas.

    The skids were loaded using our heavy duty lifting beam and on site mobile crane in a secure area with 15m headroom.
    The skids were packed with tailor-made skeleton timber framing using heat treated timber to ISPM15 regulations for International export, the packing was designed to use the existing lifting lugs to keep costs down to our client without compromising quality standards, the plywood cladding is then applied to the timber frame and shipping marks and international symbols are applied using our CAD computer software. This case is now packed and ready for onward shipment to the Nigeria with its 12 month protection guarantee.

    All work completed within the 48 hour deadline given with the help of our 24/7 shift team of packers. All our work is carried out to BS1133 standard and goes through our own internal rigorous inspections.

    Break-bulk Shipment

    Case Study 5 – Oil and Gas

    To ensure against costly errors and nasty surprises, shipping large pieces of un-containerized cargo needs experience, attention to detail and the ability to anticipate issues.

    Safeway Shipping has overseas offices and partners worldwide who are all equipped with the same level of experience and understanding to handle the most difficult and awkward cargoes.

    This project involved loading, lashing, securing and transporting cargo from Lake Charles, Louisiana. We made two site visits in advance, and monitored the collection from siteand the loading on board, with space on the vessel occupying the equivalent of 100 20′ containers. Close liaison with the project managers, shipping line, heavy haulage supplier, port of loading and discharge, and giving progress reports to our client along the way is all part of the turn-key service Safeway.

    Shipping provide through good preparation and research, we were able to transport the awkward cases by road, using a specially modified hydraulic trailer to the Port of Long Beach, instead of making a costly transshipment.

    Here we were contracted and Safeway rose to the challenge, by coordinating all aspect of the shipment, including moving of the 2000 HP x 1,300,000 lbs. Hook Load Land Drilling Rig, Mud pumps, Accumulator Unit, (6-Station, 220 Gal., 12 Bottles Complete with Driller Panel) Stimulation Machines, 2 units of 150 Ton Grove Cranes, 4 Mobile container offices, 8 automotives, BOP valves accessories, 18” pipe with Flanges, Annular Hydril, Blowout preventer Cameron T-U DBL 5000psi, Spool Spacer, large cases to Pointe Noire, Congo.

    Our scope of work involved carrying out route plans, organizing permits and escorts for road transportation, as well as liaising with ship side operations and cargo surveyors for the loading on and off the vessel, we undertake the whole task from start to finish and take the complexity out of these somewhat specialized movements.

    The vessel also picked up more cargo to complete its Houston load before making its journey to West Africa, calling at Lobito in Angola and Onne Port in Nigeria. By consolidating shipments, several individual clients were able to benefit from this special voyage charter.
